The surgeon narrows the nasal bridge and, as the saying goes, makes it pencil-thin using bone fractures then gathers them together around the central line. Therefore the nasal bones bleed and it ends in bruising around the eye. Level of bruising depends on different factors:
The wider nose, the more gathering of bones, and the more bruising
the more confidently and delicately fracturing the nasal bones by surgeon, the less bruising
Paramount factor is to do with patient’s body and skin. You have probably seen those who get bruising by a slight blow like bumping the arm door handles. These people will get much more bruising than the others after rhinoplasty
Remember this bruising may leak even into the eyes, technically termed hematoma, so you shouldn’t be worry about it. Bruising is often extended to the maximum areas in the second or third day after rhinoplasty. This issue usually uselessly causes concern, stress and anxiety among patient and his/her family. It is fascinating to know being on complete bed rest and avoidance of activity aggravates the bruising. While if you are out of bed and do light exercise such as walking sooner the bruising will subside and be absorbed sooner. It also fades sooner if you rest in a position that your head is higher that your body using for example a few pillows under your head so there is a 30-degree angle between your head and body. Apply a cold compress to speed up the recovery. The bruising disappears within 10-14 days after rhinoplasty. However, the bruising might transform into a yellow color in the first a few days following disappearance. Bruising may spread to the eyes in highly sensitive patients. Nonetheless there is no concern about it, because it will be relieved after two weeks.
